Mo Scollan's Bio

“I am mostly a self taught artist, with Painting being the medium that most excites and intrigues me. My fortieth birthday was the galvanizing moment that led me to start painting, and as time goes on that desire (to paint) is replacing the desire to produce functional art. The work of other artists that most inspires me is the development of the German Expressionists and the Bay Area Figurative Artists.”

Mo was born in New Haven, Connecticut. When she was a teenager, her Irish parents moved the family back to Ireland. Mo became an apprentice silkscreen printer in Dublin. She moved back to the States and lived in many different places: San Francisco, Maine, Miami, Austin. Then she moved to New York City and Seattle, and finally back to Austin.

Over the years she has worked in screen printing, graphic design, textile design, designing and producing hand- painted fashion, functional ceramics, lighting design, and painting.  In 2002 Mo Scollan started 2040 Gallery in Austin Texas, where she showed mostly local artists. She now paints in her South Austin studio and shares her life with her architect husband, Peter, and daughter, Lillian.
